It's a 1970 Mercury Meteor Montcalm S33 convertible - I guess only a few hundred were ever made.     Wow!  😦 😦

@perrone1 - love large cars, the bigger the better, but it is amazing to realize just how much F&R overhang  they used to have - especially in the '70's when curb weights peaked!  😦 😦

According to the http://www...

The 1970 Mercury Meteor Montcalm S33 convertible is a rare Canadian car, with only 95 units produced that year. It featured a blend of luxury and performance, often equipped with powerful V8 engines and unique styling elements.

Huge, attractive but rode like a battleship with long stopping distances compared to its contemporaries. I only remember seeing one back on the day.

Didn’t we have a Marauder “S-55”?

Look at the rear overhang, imagine if a continental wheel diving platform were added, keep you out of many driveways.

@terryslekar  I thought the "S-55"  was a special Monterey in the States, while the Marauder and Marauder X-100s were something different.  🤔 🤔

Any Mercury experts out there?

Not an expert by any means...this is what the www says...

The S-55 was indeed a special performance-oriented version of the Mercury Monterey, introduced in 1962. It featured enhancements like bucket seats, a center console, and more powerful engine options, making it distinct from the standard Monterey models. Wikipedia Auto Evolution

Overview of the Mercury S-55

The Mercury S-55 was indeed a special variant of the Mercury Monterey, introduced in the early 1960s. It was designed as a performance-oriented model, offering features that distinguished it from the standard Monterey.

Key Features

  • Performance: The S-55 was equipped with powerful engine options, including the 390 cubic-inch V8 and later the 406 and 427 cubic-inch V8s. These engines provided significant horsepower, making the S-55 a sporty choice.

  • Design: The S-55 featured unique styling elements such as bucket seats, a center console, and a floor-mounted shifter. It was available in two-door hardtop and convertible body styles.

  • Production Years: The S-55 was produced from 1962 to 1963 and then again from 1966 to 1967. During its initial run, it was marketed as a high-performance version of the Monterey.

Production Numbers and Pricing

Year Body Style Production Numbers Price
1962 2-door Hardtop 2,772 $3,488
1962 2-door Convertible 1,315 $3,738
1963 2-door Hardtop 3,863 $3,650
1963 4-door Hardtop 1,203 $3,715
1966 2-door Hardtop 2,916 $3,292
1966 2-door Convertible 669 $3,614

The S-55 was a notable model in Mercury's lineup, appealing to those looking for a blend of luxury and performance in a full-size car.

I think it is a good-looking vehicle and it would be quite an impressive ride. It would make an exceptionally cool replica in any scale. I imagine perhaps Brooklin doing such a car in hardtop coupe and convertible form with a top-up / top-down feature would be excellent.

The Canadian versions of American cars have always intrigued me.  I just recently learned that Pontiac had Canadian version of their Ventura, called Acadian.  It was basically built on the Chevy Nova body frame.

NO "bigger, the better for me".  I've always been content with more the "intermediate" size cars.  They've always been more attractive to my eye and I've always enjoyed driving them more.
