Since I was old enough to say the word "car", the '49 Mercury has always been in my Top Ten favorite body styles.
I have an uncle who used to race cars and when I was around 7 and 8 years old, he was racing a '49 Mercury.
It will always be a favorite!

One of those cars that qualifies as "iconic".

I agree George, the 49 Mercury is definitely iconic and that metallic green really suits it.
In 1956, as a sixteen year old kid, I bought a 1950 Mercury coupe with overdrive. Every nickel I made went into that car from my job at a local drug store, cutting lawns and polishing cars. After many modifications, I ended selling the car when I joined the Navy something I regret to this day.
@bob-jackman, it's the stories of the cars we owned and loved that keep us young.

As well as oozing style - and respectability - it oozed bad-ass gravitas too.
