Here is a professional shot I have shown before taken just before the opening of the 1965 Chicago Auto Show. It shows the Dodge exhibit and a part of Buick, too. My Dad's company helped design and set up Dodge's exhibit at McCormick Place Chicago and it's possible the big Dodge Custom 880 wagon shown may possibly be the exact same one my Dad got new when it went to a dealer right after the show.
The first image shows the overall exhibit and one can see a "show car" Buick mid-size on the turntable with it's square headlights. It's also shown in a crop.
Some crops also show the Dodge Charger 1 show car (which, with some changes) would become the next year's Dodge Charger.
Also a crop shows a Coronet 500 with another crop showing a Dodge red Polara. Both undoubtedly have powerful V-8 under the hood.
It's fascinating to think that you, more than likely, rode around in that very Dodge station wagon. Pretty cool! Pretty cool pics too. I've always LOVED 1965 Dodge Coronet convertibles.... I IMMEDIATELY noticed that one! 😀 😎Â
Thanks ! The '65 Dodge Coronet convertibles were great-looking cars and I believe were based of the originally "downsized full-size" Dodges for 1962 with wheelbases now at 116 inches or so for a new "mid-sized"Â Coronet.
I'm pretty sure those are Oldsmobiles in the foreground, not Buicks.

I sure hope we will get some of these cars done in 1:43. What an awesome styling era!

Yeah, that is pretty fascinating alright. I would love to see that Polara woody wagon and the Polara 2drht. done in 1:43 scale.

Oops, I think you are right ! That would make the dream car in the foreground more of a 4-4-2 muscle car type concept.
The 66/67 Chargers are my favorites, but then again back then all the Dodges were my favorites.
Thanks Mike. Your dad's Station Wagon is outstanding. Years ago I bought a used 1966 Plymouth Fury III wagon while I was finishing a basement. The car was fantastic because I could load 4'X8' sheets of plywood and sheetrock flat with the two back rows of seats folded down. One of the best cars I ever owned.

Thank you, Bob. Yep. a 4X8 sheet of plywood would fit flat on the full-size station wagons back then !
Moe Parr, that is a great-looking Oldsmobile 4-4-2 concept car in your photograph, too. A car close to that and also the productioniized Charger next door would be soon ready for the showroom floor !
Red '65 Monaco hardtop please. Monaco was only produced in the 2 door hardtop in '65.
Thank you Mike, for sharing the outstanding photos and your intriguing story. In many ways they remind me of the famous GM Motorama's of the 1950's and 60's. Also very similar to the annual "Auto Show" held in Minneapolis for many decades in the spring. So much to look at all the new styles and inventions. Next time I attend, I'm going to take some photos and will share them. Thanks again for the trip down memory lane. Â

@georgeschire yep spot on George, great pics and background Mike, thanks. I used to love our Melbourne Motor Show as a kid, early mid teens, bringing home armfuls of brochures, going over them all, thinking about which cars I was going to buy in few years
