Good reason it now doesn't exist.
I disagree. Olds was a fine car with an old and distinguished history.
It didn't deserve its fate, and GM's killing of Olds and Pontiac are the main reasons I long ago quit buying GM cars. In addition to their recent cars being garbage, that is.
With both on the same sales lot, I would choose the Olds. I do like the Merc though.

Mercury doesn't exist anymore either. It met the same fate as the Olds, being in the middle.

The OLDS without hesitation. It was the best looking Olds of the 1960's. I owned one and it is to this very day my favorite care I ever owned. And in my opinion, the best looking care I ever owned.

Olds when it was axed, was also the oldest automaker, even beating out Ford.

Olds please, my favorite Olds.
Oldsmobile by a mile...but I like the Merc too.
Both this beautiful Olds and the sleek Mercury have more style and class than nearly any dozen "full size" cars now days. The loss of Olds, Pontiac and Mercury were all unfortunate and un-necessary, given some intelligence in certain quarters.
Oldsmobile Starfire, but switch the convertible top to black.

I agree Mike. I guess the bean counters won rather than those who actually knew something about cars and their respective histories.
