Poll: Which '55? (2/28/2024)

 It my favourites, size wise but I do lean towards the Buick in this pairing.

So close I voted Buick by its colors.

John, I know you must chuckle as you post these and think, under your breath, "these birds are going to have a super TOUGH one on THIS choice!" And you did it AGAIN!

I could see-saw back and forth on this call but my first impression is Buick! And good grief; in those rare colors - Game, Set, MATCH!

I like both.  But the edge goes to the OLDSMOBILE!  General Motors started to get the Oldsmobile right in 1954, they got closer to perfection with the '55, then hit the Bulls Eye with their '56.  Their Dashboards alone were Juke Boxes to set your eyes on.  The Oldsmobile's overall side trims and chrome design were works of art and those "bullet bulb" taillights were rich looking.  

Buick looks better though I don't really care for either.  Would have bought a Mercury if I were old & wealthy enough in '55. '57 for Olds & Buick to look good to me.

The colors on the Buick are stunning. The side spear on the Buick makes the car look longer and lower to my eye. Meanwhile, the Olds somehow looks more boxy to me, despite the fact that they are essentially the same car. 

Slight edge for the Olds in my opinion, and I prefer the Hydramatic transmission over the Buick’s Dynaflow.

I love your comments Tony. Finding these comparisons is a real talent which John does so well. Both of these cars are favorites of mine but I give the edge to the Buick for its sweep spear side trim and the Kelsey Hayes wire wheels.

I prefer the grille, tail lights and side trim/color separation of the Buick.
