To me, the Fairlane looks jaunty! The Montclair looks showy. I'm going with jaunty. Smile

I agree with Tony. The Mercury looks overdone.

I agree, the Mercury looks overdone, which is what Ford was looking for, since the Mercury was supposed to be a better class.

This year Ford Fairlane has always been my fave Ford of its decade; it beats the gorgeous Mercury by a slim margin.  In '55 this order would be reversed.

'56 FoMoCo best year of the '50's, love all their makes. I choose my picks on this sight by the car model, not the picture presented here, in other words[car model, not the picture] which one would I buy.  Mercury is what I would have bought in'56, a hard top though. By the pictures presented I agree with most here the Ford does look better and I would be proud to own either one.

Vote today, the Mercury.

I quite like both and was tempted to a tie. On reflection I went Ford because of slightly less chrome. In the day, more chrome was considered better, but now.

I had to concede to vote a TIE on this one.  I think '56 FoMoCo brands rocked.

One minor comment, some here know I've expressed the importance to me for a dashboard to be exciting to look at, as that is primarily all I (as the driver) ever see, so that said, the Ford does have the better dash of these '56's.

@perrone1 I prefer the less "adorned" '55 Merc.

I voted a tie.  I have always liked the 52-57 Ford and Mercury.

Ford by a country mile. One of my very first favorite car designs at about age 6 or 7.

thanks again John for continuing to post this great series.
