I like the Olds; nice styling, but too many frills and gingerbread for my current taste.

DeSoto's Firesweep is more attuned to my 'likes' these days.

Terrific comparo John!!

Tough, but DeSoto has its looks better integrated.

I ran into these photos just yesterday from 2016.

Olds.
Olds. 1

Retired in Dunedin, Florida.

Neither are favorites of mine. Slight edge to the Oldsmobile.

Both are appealing designs but I give the styling edge to the more modern looking Olds.  I have always liked its front end design.  I am less enthusiastic about the tail end but on the example provided by Ed the color separation of the silver & white really helps the overall look.  The DeSoto is a nice car but is somewhat dated looking in comparison.

'57 I loved both DeSoto & Oldsmobile, '58 DeSoto alright & '58 Olds yuck, '59 I don't care for either one..  I would not mind owning either one but I would not buy either one[either].

A TIE for no interest in both OR should I vote NO INTEREST IN THIS SELECTION??

You don't care but I do or I wouldn't have asked for opinions. I like to be some what accurate, I do realise it makes no difference to the world.

I think a TIE, perhaps, would indicate a liking of each but no significant edge to one or the other. Since you do not like these specific 2 selections, SORRY NO INTEREST would be your proper vote. Cool

I think they are both rather ugly, but the DeSoto has a little more charm. I’m not a fan of 1959 Americana.

I like both. To me the '58 DeSoto is a warmed over '57 and blends in with the rest of the cars driving down the road. The 1959 Oldsmobile 98 is a fresh design, nothing like the radical and controversial '58. Way back when, a buddy had a 1959 black 98 Holiday Coupe that was DDG. My pick is the '59 Oldsmobile.

Gents, thanks for the pics and responses.
