Having had experience with both, this is a very close call. My brother in law had a ‘70 Chevelle LS-5, 4 speed, Charcoal stripe delete with poverty caps that was a true sleeper. A good friend had a ‘70 GTX 440-6, 4 speed in a kind of metallic bronze. I liked them both very much, they were both stupid fast, I’d call them about even in that regard, but I would take the Chevy for what I consider the better build, and the much nicer ride quality and interior.

Going with the Chevelle SS today for the reasons Kevins mentioned, although I really like the aggressive look of the GTX.  Both companies did a bang-up job of refreshing their 1968-9 designs.  Interesting factoid:  1968-1972 Chevelle coupes, 1970-1972 Monte Carlos, and 1970-1972 Buick Skylark coupes all share the same greenhouse glass and deck lids.  This is probably true for the sedans and 4-door hardtops as well.

'70 Chevelle is my favorite Chevelle, but I never really cared for Chevelle's.  However I was never a big fan of Plymouth either, but the '70 Satellite sure looked good to me, I actually loved the GTX.  And I much preferred Chrysler Corp over General Motors in the late '60's early '70's. Today Plymouth please.

Change the stripes from white, on the Chevelle, to black and you have the car in the movie, "Reacher". Did you HEAR that monster? OMG; it was music to any car lover's ears. My favorite year Chevelle. But.....that GTX, in those colors! Madone!!

I can't decide John, you've made it too hard and I feel light-headed. TIE!

I have always liked the 1970 Chevy but a guy down the street from our house when I was growing up had blue GTX and you knew it was him pulling away from the house. Varooom! So it is a tie.

I like the looks of the Plymouth better, but contemporary reports called the Chevelle peak muscle car. I voted for the king.

I like the Chevelle, but the '70 GTX/RR are my favorites of these bodystyles. GTX, and in that color for me please. 🤑

Chevelle SS please John. Love everything but the brakes. While it had front disc brakes, they definitely needed upgrading with all that power and weight.

I love both of them, so I went with a tie.

I like both, so voted for a rare TIE.  With a minor change to the "stripe" color on the Chevelle, to BLACK, and is 100% perfect.

Both are perfect examples of what the muscle car era was all about. For style the Plymouth was a slight step ahead but build quality gives the nod to Chevelle

I hate voting a tie for some reason, but man oh man these two are SO close.  The '69 versions of these two lean to Chevy getting the vote based on the fact that it is my fave year Chevelle.  The same reasoning goes for the GTX for 1970 but by just a hair over the awesome Chevelle.  GTX gets the nod today.

If the GTX were a ‘68 or ‘69 it would get my vote but in 1970 Chevelle got it right!
