I know many like the '59. But I really go for the lean and mean '61. To my eye, it looks less flamboyant and more refined.

I could see myself driving around in the 61 rather than the 59, as cool as the 59 is. 😎👍

I will put in my 2 cents. I think the 59 outshines the 61, with the curved wings at the front and the rear, make this Buick stand out amongst the crowd.
Fifty Nine was the break out year for fins. The whole world stood up and took notice.
Go big or go home - '59!!

I agree with JK and choose the 1961. Both of these examples are great cars but represent different eras of styling; so I suppose it gets down to which era a person prefers. I love both eras but prefer the trimmer, sharper styling of the early 1960s; particularly regarding GM products.
The big, confident 1959 for me.

Radically different GM Buicks but each certainly have their individual charms ! Being a Buick, you cannot go wrong with either of these beauties. The Fifties and Sixties were definitely good times for the them.
The GM '59 cars may have been OTT, but the way the Buick carries the "gullwing" theme through consistently from front to rear made it a real stylistic stand-out.
The '61 may be more "refined" but the pseudo-'61 Thunderbird pointy nose is oddly out of character with the more formal, squared-off look of the rest of the car so I deduct points for that and go with the '59. And if you wanted to turn heads driving around in a classic "Yank tank" of that era, it's no contest. (Not the convertible, though. The roof is too "soft" for the car's sharp looks. Give me the 4-door HT.)

This was a lot harder of decision than I originally thought it would be. Now, 10 years ago or so, I wouldn't have looked twice at the '61 Buick, but since I've had the opportunity to spend some time with one of them. I really appreciate the style of the overall car. I can even say that I really like it a lot. That brings me to the '59, which is my 2nd favorite Buick of the 50s after the '57. Its style is iconic. The lines from front to back are 50s all the way and so distinctive, I can't help but choose this one, albeit by a much smaller margin than I originally thought.

1959: The year Buick (briefly) abandoned the ventiports.
Don't care for the '59 but like the '61 better, and like the '60 best of the three years.
John,
You be killin me again with these picks. No contest... I didn't even need to see the pics to choose that gorgeous '59 !
👍 Steve
The 59 and 61 are a tie with me. However the real winner is the 60.
