Evolution-wise, the Buick is a step ahead in the fifties so far by '53. Buick.
Mercury. It's smaller and looks sleeker.
Retired in Dunedin, Florida.
101% with Ed…. Mercury.

Tie. I like the modern look of the Buick but the the confusing tuff grill and teary headlights throw me. The Mercury has a nice stance calling to mind those used for racing but the bug eyes are odd.
It is very nearly a tie for me as I love both of these cars but I give the nod to the trimmer lines of the Mercury; my fave of it's decade (tied with the '55). The orange part of the Buick's "dagmars" detracts somewhat for me.
Now this is a Buick that I do like.
Love both, but a slight edge to the Merc.
I like both but I like the Buick a bit better.
Not keen on the Buick. I could happily live with the Mercury.
Not even close, I love the Mercury 😍 , while I dislike the Buick 🤮.
I usually vote for the Buicks toothy grin, but the Mercury from 53-56, are hard to beat for me.
Each is a great-looking full-size American automobile from that year. I have a scale replica of a 1953 Buick, although my scale model of the Mercury is a 1954.
