You're not dreaming Bob. Back in May 1999, one month after I got the Lincoln running since sitting in an impound yard for 10 years, I embarked a three-week Route 66 trip with one other car. We drove from L.A. to Chicago via the northern route where I picked up Australian friends at the airport, and then followed Route 66 as best we could back to Santa Monica, California. I had books and maps showing the different alignments of the road and tried to drive the oldest sections of the Route. We picked up another car on 66 in Missouri. Here's some highlights of the trip:
Minneapolis, in front of the house used in the Mary Tylor Moore Show
Beginning of Route 66, East Adams Street and Michigan Avenue, Chicago
...and driving back to California
