One of my favorite Ford designs but the mid 60s Fury’s (65-68) were the neatest looking cars my little boy eyes had ever seen. They just looked like they floated.
I liked the immediately previous Fords much better. The Sport Fury has way more style and uniform cohesion. For me, an easy MoPar win.
So very close since they both are terrific, but I've always liked the Ford a little more.

Plymouth, my dad had one when I was a kid. White with red interior. Man, it was sharp.
These Plymouths were absolutely beautiful. Every line was perfect. Many years ago we bought a used 1966 eight passenger Fury III wagon and even it was beautiful. The Ford is okay but doesn't stand up to the Plymouth.
Interesting choice John. I went with the Ford mainly because of the fastback on the Plymouth which I never fancied on a larger car. Mustang, yes.
David, the '65 Plymouth Sport was not available as a fastback...Interesting choice John. I went with the Ford mainly because of the fastback on the Plymouth which I never fancied on a larger car. Mustang, yes.

Oops, that Plymouth in that image looked to me like a fastback and not a convertible when viewed on my ipad. Looks better on my 27 inch Mac screen.
I've always thought that Plymouth design was the best of the sixties Plymouths. But I've always been very fond of the '65 Ford. The Ford gets my vote today. Good comparo, John.

I have tried to put one of these two over the other but just couldn't do it; I love them both equally so it's a tie. Plymouth's best offering of this decade by far.
Back in late '64 when I was shopping for my first new car, I when with the '65 SS Impala Coupe but I strongly considered the '65 Plymouth Sport Fury 2-DR Hardtop. The '65 Ford was never in the running.

Funnily enough, at a quick first glance I was fooled by the same optical illusion as David. The shape and colour of parts of the boot/trunk lid and black interior gave a momentary impression of an extreme fastback, Rambler Marlin-style. (Either you see it or you don't.)
Needless to say I felt obliged to enhance the image to show what we saw - or what we thought we saw. I'm not saying anyone would wish it had been a real option, I'm just saying it was an interesting illusion.
On balance I'd give my vote to the "genuine" Plymouth, by the way, although I always disliked the narrowing-towards-the-base rear pillars (I would almost rather have the fastback!)

As much as I like Fords I chose the Plymouth too. It has a much more expensive look to it and is the car I’d want in my driveway.
