They are both really nice personal luxury cars but I might choose the 1972 edition of the Monte Carlo and that era M.C. is one I am happy to have a diecast replica of.

I voted for the '73.  The '72 is nice, but the '73 Monte Carlo has graduated from being a Chevelle Malibu lookalike to a standalone personal luxury automobile, and with its dynamic side sculpturing, would never be confused with the Malibu.  Of course, the 5-mile per hour bumper requirements compromised the front end a bit, but overall, I think it's a winner.  It would be interesting to see what the front end would have looked like if there were no 5-mph bumper standards.

I have no interest in cars after '72, which eliminates  the '73.  But, Just comparing pics I prefer the looks of the '72.

I liked the '72 when it debuted and almost bought one. But it looked too much like every other Chevy. When the '73 came out it was amazing. Had the twin pontoon-type fenders, front and rear, an opulent opera window, regal stance and killer interior. We kept our second car until '74 and bought a brand new '75 Monte Carlo in an Autumn Bronze.

I went with the 73 although I thought the front was wide or the back narrow.  My cousin had a boyfriend in high school used to bring his mother’s brilliant green (lime) 72 to her house it had a white vinyl top. Didn’t like it or him for that matter.

1972. I would have voted for 1973 but the bumper ruins it.

In 1973 I bought a new Olds Cutlass Supreme. The Oldsmobile not only brought sculpture but the bumpers were still a part of the body design unlike the Monte Carlo and most everything coming out of Detroit. The 72 Monte Carlo, in my mind, was a Chevelle with an elongated front cap. I vote no interest.

72 for me.  I never liked the MC after the first generation.

I liked the Chevelle and did not mind the similarity on the 1972 Monte Carlo. The bumper on the 1973 was disappointing.
