We frequently hear about how dull and dreary car design was in the seventies and early eighties. What were you driving during those years?

Here's a partial list of my cars back then, in no particular order and some owned at the same time:

1970 Toronado

1968 Audi 100 LS

1972 Fiat X 1/9

1972 Pontiac LeMans

1970 Ford Maverick

1964 Chrysler Newport

1966 AMC Ambassador postal service sedan

1974 Jaguar XKE

1969 Thunderbird Landau Coupe

1973 Toyota Corona coupe

1972 Ford Pinto

1968 MG B

1970 Triumph TR 6

1971 Fiat 124 Spider

1978 Chevrolet Caprice coupe

1981 Fiat X 1/9

By 1980, I was driving dealer demonstrators and able to make the questionable decision to buy another X 1/9 to play with, an amazingly fun car but a nightmare to maintain.

Nada. I lived in Manhattan for 35 years, so no car. I started having money in the 90s, so started renting occasionally then.

Finally got a car again in 2014, and still have it

You couldn't pay me enough to live in any large concrete jungle or desert. TREES, large trees please most being of the deciduous type, oak, maple, aspin, berch, beech with a few hemlock & pines. Tree hugger, definitely.

@jkuvakas

I loved NYC with all my heart until the last 2 or 3 years when, well, I didn't.

I did own a 1963 Valiant convertible in PA from 1971 to 1974 as my first car, and it was terrific. I then briefly owned a Fiat 128 SL, which was remarkably fun, but also amazingly prone to rust (shocking, right?). Finally I had a hand me down 1971 Hornet Sportabout that served me for a few years until it gave up the ghost in 1978. That's when I realized I could move to NYC.

In 1970 I owned a ‘66 Impala SS and sold it to my brother.

1970 Monte Carlo. traded for a

1974 Charger (oops!) I sold and bought a

1975 Dodge van sold it in 1983.

1974 Camaro. Sold it to buy a house.

1976 Datsun B210 Honey Bee that my wife drove when we married.

1980 Chevy Citation..traded the Datsun in for it. Traded it for a

1982 Mustang. Family outgrew it so bought a

1986 Astrovan we drove for 10 years.

1972 Plymouth Satellite Sebring Plus from a lady on my mail route.

1967 Mustang for our son’s first car. A real beast so go him a used

1984 Firebird. Wife hated the Satellite so I sold it and got a

1987 Monte Carlo Aerocoupe.
