In the 70's and 80's I tended to keep my cars a few years- just out of service in 1971 and bought a Maverick- traded that for a 1979 Mercury Zephyr-
Then a couple Thunderbirds. I also had my work trucks during this time- but my fun vehicle was my 1939 Hot Rod- had that one 24 years-
@jack-dodds, it was a four-door sedan with one bucket seat and right-hand drive. I bought it at a post office sale for $75. I cleaned it up and covered the floors with multi-color carpets and threw in some giant pillows and some smaller ones to keep things comfortable. Then I put a deep tint on the windows and added a stereo. When it was all done, I took it over to show my girlfriend. Her father took one look at it and said, "She's not going anywhere in that thing!"

What a shame....obviously not an AMC guy I guess. You would think he would be a bit more respectful.....
@jack-dodds, LOL1 I believe he was thinking the same thing!

Compared to most a relatively short list: 1974 Ford Mustang II (believe it or not, it served me quite well); 1978 Toyota Celica ST Coupe; 1983 Toyota Celica GT Liftback; 1988 Mazda MX-6 GT.

65 Buick Skylark --V8, manual steering and brakes. Tough for urban parking. Loved the styling.
69 Buick Lesabre -- TH 400, 4 Barrel, HD suspension. More fun to drive than it looked.
73 Dodge Dart -- Slant six, verrry slow. But keep sandbags in place over the axle made it best car ever in snow.
78 Buick Regal -- Loved that look, but couldn't do anything with its softie suspension.
80 Olds Omega -- GM "X-Bodys" were perhaps the worst Detriot efforts ever. Subframe carrying engine came loose at 750 miles. Fortunately in driveway.
80 Volvo 240 -- 4 speed plus odd push-button overdrive. Added various strut tower and other bracing, Bilsteins, better tires, and drove it merrily for 10 years.
