When was the very first time you made a modification to your car, changed anything to make it yours? What did you do?

I was fifteen and had a '64 Buick LeSabre convertible in Coral Mist. My dad gave it to me when he bought another car and the first day I had it, I put pinstripes on it.

I put blue airport marker lights under the dash of my first car - a '46 Plymouth coupe.

Painted the bottom of my '48 Dodge with a rattle spray can and the top a different color with a brush.  Surface rust & faded original paint.  My paint job didn't last long as the pic a year later shows faded as bad as the original.

First was adding flames to the paintwork on a friend's 1935 Plymouth. I did not like the effect. Car only cost him $35.

First on my own car was adding a Judson Supercharger to a 1958 MGA Twin Cam. Not my car pictured but you get the idea. It worked well.

This question made me have to think!  I didn't do much to my cars.  Kept them stock.  I would have to say the first mods were made to my 1939 Ford and that was maybe the 10th car I ever owned.  Changed drivetrain/ suspension/ paint and interior.  Turned it into a street rod.  Kept it 24 years.

My father agreed to hand down the family 68 Tempest if I paid for the insurance and repaired the rear bumper damage.  A friend and I replaced the bumper with a clean Lemans bumper (lights were a little fancier) recovered from a junk yard.  Girl friend put a hippie flower sticker on the roof.  Beer bottle caps on the floor were mine as well.

On my tan '53 Ford I painted the rims black, installed baby moons and reversed the spring shackles.  Good grief...Lol!

I took the luggage rack off my '65 Dodge Custom 880 wagon, installed cool new plastic wheel covers and flipped the air-cleaner cover over to give it that unencumbered and mighty 2-bbl 383 sound !

I replaced the stock hubcaps on my '55 Chevy 210, 2dr post, with '60 Buick wheel covers and I painted the rims red. I thought the change really enhanced the appearance of my first ride.

@david-green  By the size of the blower it seems like it would take 10 HP just to put it into action.

@kocour

Possibly, but it sure gave a nice kick once it got going. It added about 15 miles per hour to top speed and cut several seconds off 0-60.

A friend had one on his VW and loved it. The one for MG was slightly larger and different but worked equally well.
