And speaking of random acts of kindness, I thought you might want to share my happiness about a most generous unsolicited windfall that landed in my inbox yesterday.
After my experiences with a certain Awards Committee (which shall be nameless but you know who I'm talking about) that makes promises but consistently fails to deliver, this comes as a breath of fresh air. Thanks a million, Mavis. You have my details.

Criticize if you will Mr. Sourgrapes but I'll personally guarantee (not warranty...guarantee) that Mavis has no plans to spend her vast wealth refurbishing and giving away 1-HP Trabant SS Demi-Coupes.

Any day now, in return for my just having forwarded in good faith an international currency transfer validation fee of £2500 (an absolutely trifling sum in the circumstances) my bank balance is about to be swelled beyond my wildest dreams. And you call that garbage? Shame on you. You should be happy for me.Gosh that Mavis is such a wonderful person. The hard part to believe is that some people actually fall for this garbage.

By the way, those cardboard boxes look pretty spacious and inviting. A few of those could well provide me and my lady wife with some welcome protection from the elements if my newfound fortune doesn't turn out exactly as expected. But of course that's just my deep-rooted, infantile paranoia coming to the surface as the hours tick by and no 7-digit sum has yet shown up in my online bank statement. But it's early days.
