NOTE TO SELF...

DO NOT attempt to provide any production numbers for any American car brand in the future.

@moe-parr, I didn't intend to imply that production numbers and sales numbers weren't relative to one another.  But they are two different things.  Cars produced and cars actually sold before the next years model year, will reflect different numbers for practically every Brand.

In the instance of my sharing the production numbers of each Brand, I was only relaying the figures that I have in my files from the 1980's that I got from the magazine "Car Exchange".

NEVER, NEVER, NEVER did I mention or post anything about SALES numbers.

@brush

I was only sharing what information I had.  If they are incorrect, then they were incorrect as reported in Car Exchange magazine, the source I took them from.

My frustration is that there was a confusion between PRODUCTION numbers and possible SALES numbers.  Though sales are the desired objective of producing cars, producing them doesn't mean all Brands will sell the same.

George, let me start off by saying how VERY much I appreciate all your posts. They have added tremendously to my daily enjoyment in following and participating in this forum, and I sincerely thank you for all you do here!

That being said, and especially with your background in banking...is it even remotely feasible to produce 1,300,000 cars and sell only 400,000 of them? Do you really believe that Packard sold 900,000 cars AFTER their production was halted in 1958?

With all due respect, that 1.3 million production number just can't be right. It's OK to acknowledge that.

@moe-parr,

First thank you for saying you appreciate my posts.  I'm enjoying doing them.

Your rational regarding the sales vs. the production for the Packard's makes sense.  So to put an end to the controversy, I acknowledge the 1.3 million number can't be right.

Moving right along...  Exhausted
