@graeme-ogg et al. Well, we had plenty of feedback. It seems the overwhelming majority thought a forum for modeling or dioramas was a good idea. So, at this point, we are faced with a few more questions:
- Do we try to combine those subjects into one forum?
- Which forum do we replace?
- Is there enough interest in both subjects to convert two of the unused forums?
- What do we call this new forum(s)? Keep in mind the name has to be simple and descriptive.
I thought we could keep this conversation to the Lounge to avoid some of the repetition we saw earlier.

Well, as the original proposer of the idea, I might as well start this off by summarising my own views (most of which I've already said in one place or another).
The idea was for a forum where people who like improving, upgrading, modifying, scratchbuilding or semi-scratchbuilding models or creating layouts or dioramas or model-related accessories could feel free to go into greater detail than they might feel would be of interest in a general "scale" forum. Pictures, text and maybe regular updates about work in progress and displaying their latest completed project, and maybe details about how they tackled it and the problems they encountered. Swapping "How to" hints and tips about materials, techniques or tools and any little tricks they have discovered that might help or inspire others.
My own feeling is that for those interested in all kinds of model-related "handicrafts" (either doing them or just reading about them), posts about modifying models and making dioramas, etc. could all sit quite happily together in one forum.
At the moment it looks as if "Supercars and Hypercars" is pretty moribund and would be the best candidate. One or two others don't have much activity but I'd feel less confident about saying they should be shut down at the risk of upsetting people who still use them occasionally.
If JK thinks that a second forum could be repurposed, or that creating an additional forum is feasible, then of course we could have one for modelling and one for dioramas. As for whether enough material would be submitted to sustain two forums, I don't know how you would judge that in advance. I suspect maybe not, and one would be enough, but that's just a gut feeling. Maybe better to have one "model-related handicraft forum" than two sparsely used ones.
Title? Well, maybe other folks have some ideas? I've made one or two suggestions, including "All My Own Work" and "The Craft Forum". That second one seems simple and descriptive enough but if someone comes up with something better, fine.
I would just say in passing (for those who are in two minds about this proposal) that in future if anyone wanted to post a couple of pictures of a model they had just upgraded or modified or repainted, or a diorama they had put together, in their preferred "scale" forum, nobody would be slapping them on the wrist and telling them that should be in the new forum. The "Craft" forum would be for those who want to go into more nuts and bolts detail about modelling topics which might just bore people who don't dabble in such things and just want to view and discuss models in general.
Over to you, chaps!

Graeme;
If the general consensus is to form one or more categories then I agree that your proposal makes good sense; including the one proposed deletion.
- Do we try to combine those subjects into one forum? YES
- Which forum do we replace? SUPERCARS
- Is there enough interest in both subjects to convert two of the unused forums? NO
- What do we call this new forum(s)? Keep in mind the name has to be simple and descriptive. CREATIVE
CREATIVE? Yes, that'll do nicely. Agree with all your other points.

I agree with all but "Creative." I can read my emails now, "What does that mean?"

Well, I thought it wasn't half bad, but on second thoughts, maybe it's more useful as a description for the flights of verbal fantasy to be found in The Lounge and elsewhere. (Maybe we could have a second new forum called "Mentally Deranged Stuff").
Which would bring me back to "The Craft Forum" or maybe "Modelcraft" or "Model Crafts"? Just trying to get the imagination to work here and keep the ball rolling.

@graeme-ogg............... the dung beetle would be hard to beat.......as a secondary,"Model Crafts" is quite well suited
Since this has been a diecast site for so many years, I for one have built and shown my plastic kits that keep me engaged in the model hobby, since there are no real diecast makers in the 1/24 scale any longer. I like Geoff's idea but I think just one change could be had and called "Built By Me". This would allow it to showcase everyone's talent in building diecast, plastic, diorama's or whatever that pertains to the auto industry. Just my thought.
Wouldn't complain about that as a title, except that maybe people who consider their skills quite modest and have just done a repainting and/or detailing job might feel that doesn't quite qualify as a "build" and would be hesitant about posting. Or maybe not.
If/when the forum becomes operational maybe JK would post a "sticky" encouraging people at all levels to show and describe their work.

What must someone have done so horribly in a previous life to come back as a Dung Beetle?

It aint like they have many choices, that ilk__________but one day,at the crappy little dinner table they share each evening,Dad leans over and whispers to Junior : "boy, you get into this dung trade, you`ll never want for food as long as you live"........and sometimes Jack, that`s all the encouragement a fella needs
