OMG, YES! And also remember sofa and chair covers too. Then there were the clear floor mats as well!
I read a colour supplement article on Jerry Lee Lewis 'at home' with one of his seven wives, in which they were photographed on genuine Louis XV furniture, covered in hard, transparent plastic. I think the last say in plastic seat covers and surely a reflection of his sense of humour?
Sure do. They were dealer installed on our new '56 Ford Fairlane Town Sedan. We did not have them in our home.

Hold on to me, baby, we're approaching a tight corner....and another one,..........and another one....
That clear plastic was wonderful stuff with many uses besides seat covers.
I admit I had something of an exhibitionist streak in my younger days and would spend many a happy evening on our local common attempting to catch the attention of impressionable young women with my see-through attire.
But after narrowly evading pursuing police officers on a number of occasions I switched to something a bit less conspicuous.

....well, yes AND no.
Growing up in the '70's, I didn't know anyone who had them, car or home. Years later I bought an original "MIB" set for a collector car. I was excited to get them but when they arrived the Cosmoline (?) in the plastic had broken down, rendering the clear covers too oily to use! I was mad & disappointed! 😠 😔
So... yes, I'm aware of plastic seat covers, but no, I never experienced them!
I bet you've never walked around dressed in twigs and moss either. Man, you haven't really lived life to the full.

Well, not since my days with the C.I.A. headed by Admiral Studeman, things didn't work out too well.... but that's another story. 🙄
Graeme, I bet you were a hit in the produce department waiting to be squeezed.
Yep, Dad had them on his '59 Impala. They weren't comfortable in the Summertime in Buffalo New York especially when wearing short pants.

I definitely remember them, especially the ones for sofas and chairs.

Parents had them on our '59 Chevrolet Parkwood wagon. Three kids, cloth seats! I took them off in 1968 before they sold the car, and the upholstery was near perfect. I think they were changed out once.
I remember them well although my dad never put them on any of his cars.
It seems quite odd to pay extra for the better car interior (cloth over vinyl) only to then cover it with comparatively uncomfortable plastic, so that when the car is old and nearly worn out....at least the seats look great! Lol.
