This '57 OLDSMOBILE is what I'd like to find at the end of my rainbow. It's always been my favorite old car and one that I wanted one of the mints to do in 1:24 scale back in the day. Plain and simple, it's a beauty.

George. That is a nice one. Love the grillework.
No disrespect to the Olds, but I'm still pinning my hopes on the pot of gold.

George, the scale may not be what you're wanting, but I saw a couple on eBay:

Thanks for the heads up! I actually do have three 1:18 scale '57 Oldsmobile's. Though I don't collect that scale model size, they were among the few exceptions I made to my collecting guidelines.

Many of us were hoping for WCPD to produce the '57 Oldsmobile. Sadly, despite all the good intentions, the end result never materialized.

Oh how I'd hoped those many Oldsmobile's from WCPD were going to be a reality. I talked with Brian one night for over two hours about them and I promised him I was going to buy one of EVERY color he did. Of all the 1:24 diecasts that were promised and wished for, those '57's were at the top of my Wish List.

My second favorite Olds right after the '62.
yeah that is a beautiful car, so many original design features, chrome edged swept back 2 tone feature, lovely grill and note the perfect balance from the side on view, front, rear sections and bonnet in an exact balanced state. Great pic post, thanks George.
To this day I will never understand how the powers that be at Oldsmobile allowed the beautiful 57s to become the ugly 58s. I feel the same about the Buicks of those two years as well.

Though the '58's were a drastic and different change from the seemingly perfect styling of the '57 (and years previous too), the '58 has grown on me over the years as an example of a time in our history when cars had to have chrome and glitter everywhere to make their statement. For that reason, if one were available in 1:24 scale, I'd be all over it. I'd put the '57 Mercury in that same category. It's just "so out there in it's oddness" that in hindsight, it too, is a "must have". Bob, I think you and I could agree that when a car keeps people talking about it and can always draw attention, it is worth having.

@georgeschire George, I too would be all over a model of the 58 Olds and I have them in different scales. The vast majority of my collection consist of cars that I would have no interest in owning in 1/1 scale but I love them in miniature. When I look at the 58 Olds and imagine it without all of the chrome I see a very nice looking car, not so much the Buick.

I'm with you on all counts. Though your collection is massive in comparison to mine, our brains are wired with the same thought reasoning with why we have most of our models. I like the history they tell and represent, the memories they invoke, and the stories that ensue. We were so blessed to born and live in that exciting era of the automobile. Cars today no longer create those emotions in the young or old, they are just a means to get from point A to point B. Buy 'em, drive 'em, dump 'em.

Here's one I recently added to my 1/43 collection. I think it really pops in this color:
'57 is my favorite year for Oldsmobile.
