With Chrysler's announcement this week that engines like the Hellcat may change in configuration, I thought this Motor Authority article was interesting. Click here

The news this past week that GM will be practically all electric by 2035 is about all the shock I can take right now.  Of course, one of our cars is a hybrid, so the surprise is that GM is this sure of their future.

Mass car production is going electric, we should just accept it. I don’t see how adding more complexity to the ICE is helpful. The electric motor is much simpler mechanically and the transmissions are gone too. Soon electric cars will be cheaper and easier to maintain. The biggest problems for electric cars are battery and infrastructure, which will improve overtime, faster in the developed countries slower in the developing countries. In the meantime another technology of producing electricity may mature or develop, such as full cells producing electricity. The beauty of electric cars is that you can plug different sources of electric current to the same motor. The ICE will not disappear entirely, there will be countries with no infrastructure, remote areas, car enthusiasts etc. In 2000 the digital photography was in its infancy, today my son knows for film cameras from me and the history books. My grandkids may never drive a car with ICE.

We should " ..... just accept it" ? That's about the most cowardly action one could take. I suppose one could " ... just accept" loss of individual decisions and rights ? How about "... just accept" restricting freedom of speech ?

The answer to "... just except it" is not just "No", it's Hell, NO !" People should be able to buy whatever they want and if some day in the future, electric cars actually make some sense, then great, they should be able to make the choice to buy one. Or not.

They have been forcing the issue for several decades now, trying to artificially push people into electric cars, with rules, regulations, special tax breaks and rebates, even when they STILL aren't truly practical or don't especially make sense. All sorts of problems remain, just a few of which are : cost, battery issues, electrical capacity, recharge times, cold weather performance, etc, etc. And it will still be many more years before that reality may _finally_ begin to come true.

Manufacturers and consumers should have a free, open market, without the scheming and bureaucratic interference that's being done in order to force a skewed view of society. So far, even with all the tax breaks, subsidies, favored regulations and bureaucratic interference, electric cars have been a failure. Some day in the future, they will be practical, affordable and reasonable to operate and easy to use ........... and then people should have the _free choice_ to purchase, drive and maintain one.

I love cars in any forms and shapes. I love mechanics and machinery. I am not an economist or a politician or an entrepreneur but I see several thing that will shape future: climate change, artificial intelligence, robotics and other advanced technologies. If I put everything in perspective, the evolution of the automobile towards electric is more evident to me. Acceptance gives me the freedom to look forward instead of rebelling because of the glorious past. And you are right that manufacturers and consumers should have the freedom of choice, and I am not proposing anything different but I believe one day electric cars will be the better technology so the choice will be obvious. And some times decisions and regulations are needed to push development in a particular direction. This a sticky topic in general and I am sorry it took a wrong direction, so I am ending it here on my end.

Why does a car car with an ICE use a radiator ????

Well.....???

To get rid of the ......heat....that's right, yes....

And that's where its problem is.

Far too much energy is lost in the form of heat.

We should address that, because that's where we can win a lot !

So, first develop a new kind of gasoline....and the rest will follow.

@joop, Interesting concept, Joop. Ironic that an ICE machine would produce so much heat!
