The Creator of the Smiley Face.
Harvey Ball, a graphic artist from Worcester, Massachusetts, created the iconic smiley face in 1963. Hired by State Mutual Life Assurance Company, he designed the simple yellow circle with two dots and a curved line to uplift employee morale. His creation, completed in ten minutes, became a global symbol of happiness.
Despite its widespread popularity, Ball earned just $45 for his design and never trademarked it. The smiley face exploded in the 1970s, appearing on merchandise and becoming a cultural phenomenon. Ball later founded the World Smile Corporation to promote kindness, cementing his legacy as the smiley face’s creator.
And here I thought Forrest Gump had invented it.
Wow...that's a quick 45 bucks....hell of a fair deal!
