. . . Rolls Royce had carried through this 1958 proposal to re-body the Silver Cloud III in a special edition for the U.S. and Canadian markets?
The “Californian” was a fairly daring piece of design, combining traditional British dignity with the forward-looking styling flair of Detroit, and I think it was a real shame that cost considerations and lack of production capacity meant this fascinating project never came to fruition.
Or, I dunno, maybe the weed that guy sold me last night was a bit more potent than expected.

Looks to me to be a drug influenced design. Both the grill and tail look drug distorted, Graeme. A design for California hippies who could not afford it anyway.
Straight to the crusher!
This is a car on drugs. LSD maybe. It was fueled by an overdose of gasoline and a bad batch of LSD. It probably happened in Haight-Ashbury. A nice 58 Roller backed, first, into a 57 T-bird then head on into an Edsel. Came away with some of their parts and the rest is bad history.
Was the proposal a promise or a threat?
The proposal was an attempt on my part to cause alarm and distress by knocking some bits and pieces together to produce a willfully horrendous spoof.
I should have known it would end badly, and have resolved to make amends by offering something MUCH more subtle and tasteful.

Well, I'm pleased to hear that it is "Mission accomplished", because if anyone were to suggest that I had failed to give satisfaction, things might rapidly get quite nasty
And that's before we even consider the potential value of adding a touch of

I'll say no more. Just leave the unspoken threat hanging in the air. Sword of Damocles, and all that. Know what I'm saying?

@graeme-ogg That damned Damocles was a violent bugger wasn't he? Always slicing and dicing...showing off.
