1949, you are 25 years old and you just came into some money and decided to buy a new car for your everyday uses, what would be your top three choices in the order of the most desired.

My picks:

Mercury

49 Mercury (2)
49 Mercury (1)
49 Mercury (3)

Pontiac

49 Pontiac
49 Pontiac (1)

After my Father returned from the Korean war he and his buddy ,who worked with Dad bought identical 49 ford convertibles.  They were so identical the keys would start both cars.  My first choice is a Ford convertible like this diecast that is close to what his looked like.  This is one of the few Cadillacs I would ever chose, followed by this Plymouth convertible.

1949 Cadillac Sedanette blue
1949 Plymouth Convertible maroon

@sizedoesmatter Once again I agree with you John. Mercurys from that era are just hard to beat.

Hudsons came close.  Mercurys '49 to '56 & Hudsons '48 to '54, love both.
