What if...

Don't be so determined to write off EVs.  My Hyundai Ioniq 5 is just over a year old and I have had absolutely zero problems with it.  It's a blast to drive (zero to 60 in 4 seconds) and handles really well.  Whisper quiet.  At 75 I'm not into loud cars and don't care a bit about engine growl.  I have to force myself to drive my Lexus to keep the battery in good condition.  At home charging is a breeze and finding charging stations on trips is not a problem anymore, they're everywhere. It can charge 20-80% in less than 20 minutes at a level 3 charger. 

I know it's a personal choice but so many people write EVs off without realizing how good they've become.  I'll not buy another ICE car.  But, that's just me.

Oh, and those Cadillacs are gorgeous, by the way.

I, for one, haven't written them off. Most of my driving, since retirement, has been local or no more than two hour trips. Sounds OK for electric, right? No argument from me. And it's too long to get into charging stations, in Tennessee being plentiful enough, because at my age I won't see an electric world that is that plentiful. What puts the fight in me is the lack of a choice and being told that I have to buy this or that.

Cadillac has also announced a second-generation, ICE-powered CT5 sedan for the 2029 model year.

@moe-parr, Yes! Apparently, they have also indicated that there would be a Blackwing version again.

@chris, I'd just have my butler remove the roof panel for me. 

Electricity comes from and is transmitted over wires from coal, oil, natural gas, some nuclear and some hydro powered dams and power-plants. Extensive mining in various countries is used to extract battery elements.

2) Technically you're correct, this new XT5 is a "2nd-Gen."     But for me it's "4th-Gen,"  since the XT5 directly replaced - and looked a lot like - the 2-Gen SRX.    😉

Mark, your story is a common one; most everyone who "lives with an EV for a while"  never wants an ICE vehicle again.    Suddenly, so many "ICE related things"  are no longer relevant - you need not worry about them ever again, forever.  👍 

As for your Lexus, invest in a $45 Battery Tender - and a "pig tail line set"  - if you don't want to raise the hood.    Without driving or even starting the car, this will maintain your battery at peak charge 24/7.    I use them for every car I have; if I don't drive or even start something in 4 months.... no problem!  😉 😉

1) Yeppers, I love the styling of the first Gen XT5, that's why I bought two of them. I loved the styling of the SRX and the XT5 was a direct restyle of it. The Chinese car is changed inside and I like that but hate the plain Lincoln-looking out side.

2) In total agreement with you Pard.

@chris  An even simpler way (unless you have electronics that are always 'on') is to connect a battery cable to a disconnect unit.  We have them on all three Benzs and use them regularly.  Right now, my 300TE is 'sleeping' in storage and when I want to use it I merely lift the hood and screw down the connector, to reconnect the battery to the motor.  No mess, no stress.  The 240 is also 'resting,' though it was used a couple of days ago and then 'put back to sleep.'  This is especially helpful in cold months, when a fully connected battery will run down on its own.  We use our cars infrequently and all of them are 'resting' when not in use.

I'm a firm believer in Battery Tender usage. I've used them for over 30 years. I even have one on the main driver even though it gets driven every couple days or so. I use the quick disconnects for simple deployment and dockage. On the Mercedes, I use a Two-Bank Tender since it has two batteries, a supply unit for starting and the maintenance battery for retractable top and all other electrics. And I don't apologize for having one on the John Deere X700 Series tractor. They extend the life of the battery.

@gdh Yes, I'm very familiar with those; I've had many.  THANK YOU!      They're great for collector cars - that don't require "memory storage."    

Late model vehicles, though, require "memory maintenance,"  anything that shuts off power will cause grief.    2022 vehicles and earlier can get by with lower voltage Battery Tenders (for power sports ), but anything newer requires at least 3 amps (a larger Battery Tender ).

And it's really not a hassle; I don't even need to open hoods because I've purchased hard-wired pig tails  that I can tuck into  grills and simply pull out when needed.   ALL VERY EZ PEAZY!  😉 😉 

For example:  Can you spot the "tucked-in"  pig tail?
