I have two outside cats, and only 1 dog left. With inside cats you have to clean the litter, to me which is much worse than taking the dog for a walk, plus I get some exercise. But when these 3 are gone, we are not getting anymore animals/pets, so we can travel without having to figure out who can we get to take care of the pets. Sometimes we make last minute decisions to just head out, which makes it hard trying to find someone to care for them.
@perrone1 Katie was beautiful. Domino also comes when I call him and will stay on command. All of our babies have either been strays or from the pound. The other day on TV I was watching a dog agility contest and the mixed breed dogs were referred to as American Dogs. I immediately had a conversation with Barkley and let him know he had a pedigree.
Would have loved to have been a party to that conversation. The American Dog - 100% pedigreed pupperdoodles!! We called ours Heinz 57's!
@perrone1 Tony, for the sake of his self esteem I would consider having a chat with your pooch to convince him that Heinz 57 is a breed unto itself.

As much as I'd love to, our last canine was full-blooded Dane, Baron. He's been gone now for a long time and took part of my heart with him. We chose the biggest puppy in a litter of nine. He grew to 232 pounds and wanted nothing more than to lay on your lap, protect us, the house and other cats & dogs. Extremely obedient but whenever HE 'talked', it sounded like a tank battle in a raging thunder storm!
@perrone1 "He grew to 232 pounds...."
232!....OMG Tony....tell me you forgot to put in the decimal place.
@perrone1 I see two major issues with an animal that large....actually three; the food bills, the front end loader you would need to clean up after him and the fear that at any given time of his choosing he could actually take your life!

He was a good eater. His meat bills were offset by the lack of needing a security system. When he heard anything suspicious, he merely put his paws on the fence to look over it. His head was about 7 feet off the ground. I never worried about him eating me - he was not fond of Italian food.
I have had both dogs and cats. Both are wonderful creatures, but I am definitely a cat guy. My only concern is that although the chances of being attacked by a cat with a tank are low, they are never non-zero...
However, I doubt that my little Tortie will ever have "Tank Commander" on her resume...
