PART 6:
The work continues. All side glass & ultra tiny windows frames were installed along with attending to additional vehicle details such as, small windshield stickers, rear license plate removal, paint touch ups, etc. There are still a few minor vehicle tasks on the punch-list, but PART 7 will probably be more about trailer prep & paint. Stay tuned....
- Note: In 1957 & '58 Ford's front wheel bearing covers (hub-caps ) were painted black (not silver ). I realize these rear rims incorrectly have hub-caps which could/should be drilled out, but if I botch one or more, I'm too lazy to replace it-which would involve more trim & paint work. So, I just left well enough alone... for now. 🙄 😏
you've done a great job with the cars Chris, especially considering the small scale
PART 7:
As with all projects, the more you learn, the more you need to accomplish. I discovered a better, more detailed, photo of the very trailer I'm replicating..... so I had to fabricate & adjust additional & prior work to match.
Apparently, Automotive Conveying-car hauling was a big NJ outfit in the 1950's. Nearest I can figure, they hauled mostly new Fords built in the NJ factory. My challenge now is to obtain vintage color photographs; I have NO CLUE what the actual colors are on these car haulers rigs. Stay tuned.....
its great seeing the progress of this build Chris.
As for resources, do you have a large nearby capital city type library? I was searching to see what books my local State Library of Victoria has on Ford history in Australia and amongst Ford books this came up!
All of these rarer types of books are view in the library only so next bad weather day here in Melbourne I'll head in there and check out as many as I can in the warm building.
@geoff-jowett Thanks for the compliments.... the more I look into this project the more I end up doing.
And yes, long before the internet, I had to make phone calls and/or visit libraries to obtain reference materials. If need be, I will contact someone in NJ directly. Unfortunately, the only color photo of an Automotive Conveying car hauler rig I've discovered thus far is this one. But sadly, it's of their earlier days... different paint & graphics.
Somewhere, there's color photos of their 1957 Ford C-Series rigs & tailers.... I'll sniff them out!
