1942 De Soto - Conquest / 1942 Oldsmobile - Newbank Models / 1942 Hudson - Minimarque
Some readers may recall that an advantage I find in 1/43 scale, is being able to see a number of models as a whole, and that I like colours to flow seamlessly from year to year, to enhance that sence of unity. So I have been especially happy to be able to add Raymond Paszkiewicz's 1942 Oldsmobile by Newbank Models to my collection. Particularly as it bridges the pre / post-war era so perfectly !
It arrived from Lloyd Ralston today, very carefully wrapped !
A lovely group Charles; I especially like that Olds convertible!
@jack-dodds Thanks, Jack. It's a handsome car and very much of its time, being so restrained. I consider myself very lucky to have it.
Beautiful, Charles! Great addition! I especially like the WWII period-correct blackwalls on the '42 cars.

The maroon Oldsmobile convertible, since it has no chrome fender moldings is a 60 series car versus the more expensive 98 series. The 60 series could be ordered with a six or eight cylinder engine but only 848 of the 60 series were produced before end of 1942 production. The model would show well with the '42 Oldsmobile woody by Brooklin.

@moe-parr Your models are spectacular. I really wanted the Oldsmobile Sedanette but was too late, and now they're very hard to find. Equally handsome are your De Soto Sedan and Olds' Woody Wagon. Thank-you for adding to the theme.
@john-quilter Thank-you for this information. I got the models out and packed the boxes away, before realising I didn't know what series the Oldsmobile was (presuming it's written on the box). The pre-war Olds are universally referred to as B-44s which doubtless you'll know is on the one hand a play on military aircraft of the time but used as a promotional theme, celebrating Oldsmobile's 44th. year 1897 - 1941: The oldest American auto manufacturer. The 'B'? Better looking, Better lasting, Better built........ But series number remains in the Box!
I really wanted the Oldsmobile Sedanette but was too late, and now they're very hard to find.
Diecast Direct's website shows it currently available at $179.95 plus shipping.

@charles-rockett Congratulations Charles on the new addition. Fortunately I have all of these as I love this era of automobiles.
The '42 models are a highlight in my collection. I picked up the Olds convertible recently and it adds to all of my other '42s.

@mikedetorrice Thank-you Mike for posting this. As well as having attractive imagery, it speaks to a sense of security - even community - that cars of this era seem to impart.
@jcarnutz @bob-jackman Bob & John it seems these are not so difficult to get in the U.S.; which is good as the more happy souls there are, the better. But one never sees Newbank models in Europe. I have their 1938 Hudson business coupe which is a fabulous model, but have always wondered why there aren't more of them. I would be interested to know if there are any more models issued.
