I have just become aware that ebay has ended their relationship with Pay Pal effective July 19th. Does anyone know whether ebay has replaced Pay Pal with a similar payment system that we can use as buyers and sellers? All I can get from "chatting" with them on line is direction to find another payment method to use; which is vague to my limited computer ability.
Amazing. PayPal gives a buyer an extra layer of security, and keeps credit card info out of the hands of unknown merchants. It also offers the choice of paying using a checking account which is sometimes useful.
Regardless of whatever snit ebay must have had with PayPal they are about to lose a tremendous amount of business. Including mine, until I know more details.
Perhaps ebay is creating their own payment service for their customers to use in place of PayPal. If so perhaps the dropping of paying via PayPal should have coincided with the rollout of such a new payment platform.
A lot of discussion is online about it. Many sellers are upset, not any buyers that I saw. Looks like they are going to their own internal system.
I have spoken too soon because it seems that ebay does have their own payment platform, thought out and in place. It is geared for customers who do not want PayPal as a requisite to use ebay and is helpful for non-USA customers who use different payment options. Obviously to be fair I need to find out more.
As I understand it, the change mainly affects sellers. eBay will now pay sellers directly into their bank accounts rather than crediting their PayPal accounts.
In theory, sellers can still offer buyers the option of paying via PayPal as before. (In fact, even though they are going their separate ways, I read that eBay still RECOMMENDS that sellers offer PayPal!) The problem is that some sellers are deeply unhappy with the added complications of the new arrangement, and about giving eBay direct access to their bank accounts, and some have threatened to stop offering buyers the option of paying via PayPal. In that case, those sellers will presumably require (or recommend) that buyers use another form of payment, such as credit card payment or alternative payment systems like Nochex (which apparently offer the same kind of protection as PayPal but buyers may never have heard of them so might be wary of them).
In the UK I see that the existing agreement between eBay and PayPal will be honoured until 2023, but I think that may not be true in the US and elsewhere.
While I was writing this I see one or two other people have posted that eBay will be offering its own alternative payment system. I didn't come across that detail while browsing online. Be interesting to see what it is like (and why eBay thinks it is a better deal than PayPal).

When I just spoke via "chat" with the ebay help guy he only stated that I needed to find an alternative to Pay Pal. When I asked him if they were offering a replacement to Pay Pal he didn't mention that ebay were offering or planning an alternative. Strange.....
@jack-dodds.. I stopped using PayPal years ago because of the high interest rate. I use my own Visa at 9.9% interest. I'm over 500 buys and NEVER had a seller complain. Ebay is great, 1st class..PayPal..MEH !!!

I have 2 credit cards attached to my ebay account and have just been trying to add a bank account....with no success......frustrating.
Good.
I had several major hacks in succession through PayPal's lax security. I had to replace my Visa card 3 times while on vacation. Even after all their calls and changes, I was still billed for $1500 in Honda go fast parts, which, of course, I didn't pay for. I cancelled PayPal immediately thereafter and never had another problem.
They had no clue about security.

I sell on eBay. They now use their own system called Managed Payments. I've been on it for almost a year now. I don't miss PayPal at all. Buyers on eBay now have even more payment options. Things evolve.
I have recently order on a site and their international service want absolutely that i order by Paypal online because this is my first buy with them. They sent me an email. I have canceled my order. Why i should give some infos at Paypal without asked me what they will do with and if they are really protected against the intern or outside fraud? You can't even completely trust your bank.
Payments to me go to my FCU. My payments for merch go thru Discover. I consider myself protected either way.
As an owner of an Ebay store, I was switched to Ebay Payments two months ago; so far, I like it. The way it works is I don't know and don't care how the buyer pays; the money will come to my bank account. I also like that all fees are chraged at the time of payment now, and I am not hit with a huge bill once a month.

How strange that the "help" guy I chatted with didn't mention this! Thanks for this info.
I find this all a bit strange. If I recall correctly didn't Ebay own Paypal at one point then spun it off? Am I mistaken?
