I long ago despaired of finding a decent 1:43 model of this car and in desperation I did my own version based on the Dinky Matchbox Golden Hawk. It involved a lot of serious hacking to remove the tailfins, modify the front end and build a new roof. I was reasonably happy with the result and it filled a space on the shelf, but I may (grudgingly) have to admit that the GLM version may just have the edge in accuracy and crispness of detail (sigh).
Damn. There goes the nest egg I had tucked away for the Christmas brandy and cigars. Or I may have to put my wife back on the street.

It is a very tough choice to make regarding the nest egg Graeme....but if it helps; I think you are making the right decision. The GLM is gorgeous and worth the sacrifice.
These are must haves for me too. After the '57 Golden Hawk, this is my favorite Hawk. When I was much younger I came very close to buying one of these, it needed some work I just wasn't prepared for, so I passed on it. With these, I can finally have one (or two). I ordered the white & black ones.
I have two hawks to add to this message thread. One is a Conquest 1956 Golden Hawk. The other is a diecast 1/48 scale P-36 Hawk made by Carousel1 around 2008. For those of you into WW2 history, the P-36 has the markings of one of the US planes that took off from Wheeler Field during the Pearl Harbor attack to engage the Japanese planes.
