Bruce, sorry for your loss.

I'm so sorry to hear this Bruce. I know talk is easy but please allow yourself time for the grief process to complete. It's early days of course Bruce, but in time perhaps an older dog from a rescue center who needs a friend it can trust?
Let me add my sincerest sympathies Bruce. I keep a card that two late friends gave me at the death of our Katie. I look at it every day when I turn this computer on. It always gives me solace and I hope it can for you too. Let me quote it for you:
"Four little paws wore a path to our hearts, fetching much joy and friendship and love; until two angel wings flew a spirit so sweet to green meadows forever, above!"
the death of animals always seem to tear me apart.
...so very sad. At least Cora no longer suffers.
"Though nothing can bring back the hour
of splendor in the grass, of glory in the flower;
We will grieve not, rather find
strength in what remains behind;
and remember fondly what once was..."
I too am sorry for your loss Bruce. Have you read the "Rainbow Bridge" about the loss of our beloved companions ? It helped me when I lost TC. That was in 2004 and miss her every day. Steve
I extend my condolences for the loss of your "best friend". I've lost dogs in my lifetime and it's a kind of sorrow that only we know. They weren't just a dog, they were our friend and part of our family.

My condolences Bruce. In the 60 years my wife and I have been married we have rescued many many dogs and cats and with each lose we grieve and vow never to go through that again. After some time passes we realize that there so many that need a loving home not just for their sake but ours as well. Please consider Jack's thoughts above.
Gentleman my sincerest thank you for all the good wishes.
Cora was a shelter dog with a problem, separation anxiety and 7 years old and returned to the shelter 3 times before I got her. I had her 5.5 good years. Before Cora was Lorie another shelter dog and before her was Bear another shelter dog, my last three were shelter dogs.
Bear dog had him 2002 - 2010 passed at 11 years old Cancer
Lorie 2011 - 2020 passed at 12 years cyst
Cora 2020 - 2025 cancer
I am too handicapped to take proper care of another dog, I barely care for myself. It was tough the last 6 months. THANKS AGAIN!
Sorry Bruce. It is really hard I know. Our pet friends do not live as long as we do and it is heart wrenching each time we lose a loved one. I'm currently on my 17th dog and she will be 14 on February 2nd. My last three have been rescue dogs. I remember all well and still miss them. Finding a new friend however, does help with the pain.
I admire you David and you too Bruce for adopting a shelter dog. They always 101% turn out to be the best choice in our life 👍
