It’s definitely art. I love this stuff. As a kid I used to cut out all of the car ads from every magazine I could find. The ones I remember most were ‘Life’ and ‘Look’, they had the big colored ads with great art work and totally exaggerated proportions. I would even ask my Mom’s friends to save any old magazines for me. I had a massive amount of them and looked through them over and over. Thanks for jogging my memory Galen!

Pontiacs were so wide in the ‘60’s that when you would see one coming at you, you would have to go into peoples lawns or a ditch to get out of their way!

Those Pontiac ads were the best. I also loved the Ford ads from the 70’s in the Palm Springs locations.

Van Fitz and Kaufman did the Pontiac ads and Buick before them. There's a fantastic coffee table book of the illustrations and I'm happy to have it.

Retired in Dunedin, Florida.

The art director of the company I worked for for 34 years, used to come out to the local car shows and take pictures of the details of the cars. His pictures were terrific but I don't ever recall him taking a picture of a total car. One entire wall in his office was corkboard filled with pictures of hood ornaments or radiator caps, grills,, wheels or wheelcovers, or tail lights, or door handles, or radio antennas or dash boards, etc. His perspective was truly that of an artist.
