This is scary!  It's not one of my favorite designs in the first place, but from this angle, I'm running for shelter.

It is one of those "Love it" or "Hate it" designs, and that photo is certainly a bit intimidating. For me this is an amazing looking car and style, I've always liked them. The fact that basic style was built, with some modifications by various companies until 2006 says a lot about that style.

I owned a 63 Avanti and it was a fantastic car. The angle this picture was taken would make any car look bad.

Yea, for sure the angle is not good.  Not doubting that it was fantastic car.

That's a good way to describe it.  Either one "loves it" or hates it", there is no in between.  The just always looked odd to my eyes and for sure from this angle, those huge headlights are scary.  I wouldn't turn one down in a 1:24 scale model, it would be fun to have on my shelf.

I'm in the ❤️ it category. Although if I had a choice between a 63 T-Bird and the Avanti the T-Bird would win.

Yeah, Avanti's design can be polarizing. But in its day, it was near-exotic. It was fast, unconventional, and very Continental. Avanti was one of the early car designs featured at the Museum of Modern Art. I immediately fell love with it when I saw the first pictures. But when I got a glimpse of the interior, I was head over heels. It was head and shoulders above any other domestic vehicle and rivaled the best out of the UK, back when the best interiors originated there.

Unflattering angle will make even the gorgeous Avanti look bad.

Here's a better view.

We share opposite views of the word "gorgeous" in relation to the Avanti.  Through my spectacles, it's an extremely odd shaped car.  Nothing seems to mesh on it.  And the huge "Bug Eye" headlights are really far out for this year of a car.

@georgeschire  As stated by John M. "It is one of those love it or hate it designs" we know where we stand.

@jkuvakas Well said John K. Only a guy who appreciated performance can really appreciate how truly special these cars were. The handling of these cars was like nothing ever built before in the US. Multi Link rear end suspension, front disc brakes, built in roll bar and a dashboard which totally surrounded the driver and a fiberglass body that held the weight down to just a tic over that of a Corvette. Perhaps the looks are a love it or leave it situation but the performance of these cars was strictly leave it when compared to anything else on the road.
