Magnificent!  One of my what ifs. I was offered an Allard J2 in Toronto back in 1962 for only $900. I got married that year and money was tight.

One of my favorite car genres, early open, or closed, wheel racers, especially when a streetcar variant is produced, ie the the recently posted Jaguar C type.

This video takes the car onto the road. Maybe a bit of engine confusion? This car features a Hemi, Johns link lists a Ford Pilot. Earliest production Hemi I can find is the 1951 Chrysler FirePower, quickly followed by DeSoto's FireDome (1952) and Dodge's Red Ram (1953). The video is the only one that I could find that features the car in motion, but unfortunately not much time spent going/looking over the car.

Hi John,

It had the Cadillac V8. I only drove it a few miles but it sounded magnificent. It did not have a top so it needed indoor storage which was a factor with purchase as I only had a single garage at the time. It had been raced at Harewood Acres, an old air strip west of Hamilton, Ontario but was in great shape and was licensed for the road.

Love these Allards. Two years ago at Cruisin the Coast in Biloxi, Mississippi I saw a reproduction J2 which was really well done. The owner/ builder had a period correct 331 Cadillac motor in the car  and the color was BRG. Thanks John for the great writeup.
