Another hard decision but I gotta go with the Ford. It looks to me to be a bit more contemporary for its time.

Tough choice but I’ll go ford with those cool tailights as the tie breaker.

Ford. It was the future and looks clean today.

Ford for me too. It was a definite leap forward.
Oh John, back to basic - Ford or Chevy. The old debate rages on to this day. The Chevy may look old in the teeth but the 'Shoe Box' Ford took plenty of hits from the diehard GM guys too.
Looks-wise, the Chevy retained its old-style pontoon rear fenders while the Ford leapt into the new age with slab-sided glory hinting at what was yet to come. Good grief man you are diabolical! (And I LOVE it) Going with the Ford.
In spite of its QC issues in its rushed introduction, I voted for the contemporary styling and V-8 power of the Ford. Chevy is very nice too though.
@jack-dodds Jack you are 100% correct about the 49 Ford's QC or lack thereof. To Ford's credit they corrected most of the problems by 1950. Judging stricktly by looks, the Ford is my choice.
This one was very easy for me. CHEVY all the way! I hated the looks of the Ford's of this era. I never cared for the wide front end and then the narrow back end. It looked completely misshaped to my eyes then, and still does today. And too, the Chevy looks years ahead of the Ford in styling.

'48 Hudson, '49 Hudson, '50 Hudson, '51 Ford, '52 Chevrolet, '53 Hudson, '54 Mercury, '55 TIE Chevy & Ford & Mercury; after that I love too many to list here.
I also prefer the 1951 to its immediate predecessors. The twin bullets look much better to me. The Brooklins are among my favorites. But I still vote Ford in this contest.

I much prefer the single bullet grille of '49/50. A quick anecdote....I recall feeling this way since back in 1959 when I was 7 years old. My buddy's Dad who lived two doors away rear ended someone his '51 Ford when he was drunk and so, with insurance coverage denied, he had to replace the entire nose of it in his backyard. As this repair occurred over several weeks I watched with great interest as it came together, which is when I realized that the grille was to my eye no where near as sleek looking as the single bullet. I suspect though that I may have been influenced by my beloved '50 Ford Fordor Dinky Toy. Lol. I must say however that I prefer the tail lights of the '51.
The Ford with its slab-sided style looks like a low-priced car whereas the Chevrolet with its more defined style appears to be a higher priced and a more substantial car. The '49 Chevrolet for me.
