DeSoto for me. They both look great, but it has that extra oomph.
Retired in Dunedin, Florida.
Really beautiful American full-size automobiles from 1955. My family had a real 1955 Chevrolet and Pontiac and I also have diecast models of Oldsmobiles and DeSotos from that same great year.
My vote goes to the Starfire. The DeSoto's front end is a little too heavy on the chrome for my taste.
I quite like the look of the '55 Olds but it's no match for the beautiful DeSoto IMHO.
I like both but I like the Olds a lot more.

Years ago having grown up in a household of GM products I would have automatically picked the Olds, especially because it is a 98. Over the years I still like the Olds but I have begun to really like all of the offerings from the Chrysler Corporation for 1955. By the tightest of margins I pick the DeSoto.
DeSoto please, it just looks better to me.
Olds, the first one I actually liked is the '57.
Deee Sooo Tooo!

No interest. The only part I like is the blue on the Oldsmobile.
My heart belongs to the 1955 Oldsmobile 98 Starfire. I was age four in 1955 when I went car shopping with my parents and they bought his & hers matching turquoise & white 1955 Olds 98's. His was a two-door Holiday hardtop, hers was a Starfire convertible. I still remember clearly seeing both these cars at the dealership. Picture this: a four year old brat in his little coat and tie yelling & bouncing around I want the turquoise & white. These 98's were the cars that started my life long passion for cars. First car I drove/steered was the Starfire, top down, sitting on Dads lap at about age six. I earned my allowance for years cleaning these cars. Parents got divorced, Mom kept the Starfire, and I was disappointed that she was going to trade our beautiful convertible after we relocated to San Francisco. But she was redeemed when she bought a new 1960 T-Bird convertible, white w/turquoise interior. The only one in our family not happy with the new car purchase was our cat Smokey. On road trips Smokey liked to sleep in the space behind the rear seat where the top would fold down on the Starfire, the T-Bird had no space for the cat to nap when the top was up. So many wonderful childhood memories, growing up in the backseat of a 1955 Starfire convertible.
So disappointed I never got a quality precision 1955 Olds 98 for my collection as it seems in every scale only the 88's were available. I do have the DM 88's hardtop & convertible but the 98's were by far better looking IMO with the additional 6-inches in length, the revised rear quarter panels, and the different / additional bright trim. My understanding is the 98's had the same engine as the Super 88's so they were not slow in their day. I think the Mints & others made a mistake by not offering us a 1955 Olds 98. Sorry for the long post but I am passionate for these 1955 '98' Oldsmobile's.
