The Oldsmobile is nice but I just don't like the "sad sack" looking front end so I voted Ford.

The Ford is trimmer and and just looks more competent than the Olds.

I like them both but I always thought the Old’s for ‘56 looked kind of buck toothed. We had one as a family car back in the early ‘60’s, I remember it being a great car but the color break on the Ford gives it my nod this time.

Ford just for the styling. It is sleek and sporty.  I can just imagine it cruising down the street.  The Oldsmobile is nicely done even with it’s pouty expression.  I always considered the Oldsmobile to be in a different class than the Ford.

Two top fifties choices. I'd love to drive either one. But my vote goes to the Ford for its jauntiness factor - easier to park and maneuver.

They are...but the Fairlane and the 88 have almost identical MSRP base prices...that's why I matched them.

The 56 Fairlane is one of the most beautiful cars of the mid fifties aside from it's big brother the Lincoln Premier of the same year. I bought mine in 1960 when I was 20 years old.

Had the honor of  driving both back in the early '60's, the Olds handed like a tub in the ocean and the Ford handled quite well for the time period and just looked better. My favorite Ford of the '50's. In my opinion '56 was a great year for FoMoCo styling while '57 was a great year for GMC styling.

As I cast my vote, only one other Lounge member has voted for the OLDSMOBILE.

I like the '56 Ford styling better than any other Ford of the fifties, but it just DOESN'T to my eyes stack up as more beautiful than the incredibly styled bumper to bumper, inside and out, and not to mention even a better dashboard on the Oldsmobile.

If given my choice  to own any 1956 car, OLDSMOBILE IS MY CHOICE!  Only the '56 Cadillac would be a serious competition to it.

And that's exactly why I'm the third vote for the Oldsmobile. An "upscale" brand for the same price as one of the "low-priced three" makes it a winner to me!

Each is a very attractive automobile ! The 1955's had been such a big year for Detroit that 1956 was a very mild update for two successful designs.
