Not even close for me, the Starfire is a work of art! Gorgeous example John.
I almost voted a tie, but then the Oldsmobile changed my mind.
I decided on a tie. The Mercury grill looks like it is mean grin. The Olds shape is difference especially in the rear but it looks like it got punched in the face.
Great thought-provoking choice again today John!
Not my favorite year for either car, but the Starfire still manages to outshine the Merc. Olds for the win today signore!
What kevins said... Oldsmobile.
Retired in Dunedin, Florida.
Never cared for the '61 Olds styling, absolutely loved the '62.
Love the '61 Mercury, don't care for the '62.
I am very prejudiced on this one as I owned and restored a 1961 Oldsmobile Starfire several years ago. It took me over ten years to find all of the trim parts alone as many were were Starfire only. The clamps that held the wheel covers on were a one year only part and in 1962 even those were changed. Looking at the comparison we have here today, there is no comparison in both body trim or interior. The Olds wins hands down for it's uniqueness. My example featured every option available including factory A/C, power windows, power vent windows, Autronic eye head light dimmer, signal seek radio with a foot control and rear seat speaker, power antenna located on the right rear fender, trunk release button which was located in the glove box, speed alert and air suspension which had been converted to coil springs by the dealer when the car was just a couple of years old because GM had a lot of problems with this in every division that used them. The trim panel on the rear between the tail lights was shared with the Ninety Eight series as was the grill. The twin chrome spears on the hood was unique only to the Starfire The Mercury is nice but the Starfire is truly unique in almost every regard. STARFIRE.
Both are beautiful examples. I went with a tie on this one.
I love both of these but went with Olds for its rather unique styling and trim.
Mercury is a good design but the Oldsmobile carries it one step further. Starfire please John.
I've never been a fan of Oldsmobiles except for th 442, so my vote is Mercury
