The Gran Prix is a beautiful car but up against the Riviera it takes a back seat IMO.

Yeah, I hear you John - tucked into the corner booth back there, snickering! I hear ya Pal; you're happy with yourself for pulling this comparison out of left field. You know it can't be done! Oh yeah, sure, maybe by a soccor mom or some pimple-faced 13 year old who doesn't know a Pontiac from a Slurpee.

A car guy cannot choose between them. If both were on the same lot for sale, I'd have to go in debt to own both. Really John? You magnificent Satanic genius, you!

Riviera, dang it. And I'll regret my choice 2 seconds after the post hits. Dang it!

I love the GP too much not to vote for it, despite agreeing with the above.

Love both but have a slight preference for the Pontiac which I am somewhat more familiar with having driven several.

My vote is for the Rivy!  Theres something about the Grand Prix that just doesn't make it a Grand Prix.

Unlike many of these "Which one?" exercises which come down to a very narrow margin of personal preference, I don't really get the point of comparing these two, at least in terms of looks (which for me is what these photo comparisons are all about, since I am an "outsider" to the American car scene and therefore not biased by fond teenage memories or personal experience of a particular car).

The Pontiac may be a perfectly decent and inoffensive piece of functional styling - though not the prettiest Pontiac year to my eyes - but the Riviera is in a class apart. And even if you're not a particular fan of its styling, as a concept and a design statement it was utterly distinctive and in a category all its own. And the Pontiac just wasn't.

No contest for me. Riviera.

Both are outstanding looking cars but I have been hopelessly in love with the '63 GP since the first time I laid eyes on one at age 11, so it gets the nod by a whisker over the Riv.

RIVIERA as fast as I can type the word.

I like the Grand Prix too, but up against that first year new version of the Riviera, there is no '63 that my eyes see as better looking from the Big Three for full-size cars.

I love the GP. I love the Riviera. If I had to choose between the two, I would take the Riviera...probably...maybe...I think.

Now see; that's what I love most about you John - your decisiveness...your generosity...your humility...well one or more of them anyway.  Smile
