John, you're positively brilliant! You've done it again! This is a huge challenge and once again, no wrong answers. The two very different cars are a lot alike in many ways. I really like both. I admire the jet-like, sweptback styling of the Park Lane. The fins are long and sleek; not overbearing. The wheels/wheel covers are cool. The Starfire's wings, like Batman's cape, starts forward and works rearward framing the rest of the styling exercise. Wheel covers are just as handsome.
I'm close to a tie on this one but something, overall, about the Starfire's 'look', catches my eye each time I look at it. I want one and in the same color combo you found here. Olds for the win.
Close to a tie but Olds this time.
Maybe it’s just the picture but the mercury grill is ugly. I vote oldsmobile
Oldsmobile for me, if only because Starfire is one of the best names ever.

The only thing I thought about as I looked at today's "Which One?", was how fast can I type OLDSMOBILE! To my eyes this is an absolute no-brainer. Mercury's styling was once again headed south, while Oldsmobile remained a work of art.

The Olds looks richer more luxurious while the Merk looks sportier.
Oldsmobile today, years ago I would have chosen the Mercury. Goes along with old age and comfort over youth and sporty.
Oldsmobile. It just looks more substantial to me without being outlandish.
@perrone1 I echo Tony's excellent comments and will add that the elegance of the Olds also added to my giving it the nod on this very close comparison. In the shoulder years my choice would be reversed.
Like most of you, I found this a difficult and close choice. I ended up picking the Park Lane.
To me the Mercury looks like it is flying down the road, but the Olds is just standing still. My Vote Mercury.
Oldsmobile for me. Looks like the stylists at Mercury drew their inspiration for the grille from an electric shaver:

I never liked that tall blade thing on the Olds that runs from front to back fenders and I’ve always liked the ‘64 Mercury styling.

Tough call...going with the Star Fire.
Gents, thanks for your responses!
