I'm really a fan of the Mercury's looks so I voted for it.

Buick for me. My first new car came the next year when I bought a 1966 Buick Skylark GS 400 hardtop. That nail head engine was a torque monster. The Buick road wheels were some of the best looking wheels ever IMO.

Smile Smile Smile BUICK!  And I couldn't type it fast enough this time either!  That roofline on the Mercury is NOT even close to nice looking to my eyes.

I like both of these cars very much in spite of them being so very different in styling and would be happy to own either one.  The GS Buick was a powerhouse like Bob J. has stated and had a more aggressive look; it gets the nod by a very slim margin.

I'm going to channel Ed Glorious today. I owned a '66 Mercury Cyclone GT. Big 390 in it and the car did its very best to make me look cool. So I owe it a vote of thanks. (The Buick is gor-gee-oso but my heart is loyal)

Voted for. the Mercury.  The 65 Buick isn't one of my favorites.  Prefer the 66 model.

I know very little about these cars, technically and so judge largely on design. For me The Mercury's stacked headlamps and overall 'simpler' appearance makes it more modern.
