John, you diabolical genius you! I guarantee that you snicker as you post these near-impossible-to-pick choice selections.
OK, to business. It's remarkable that two cars could share so many similarities without looking the same. Size-wise, color, folding top, even wheels. Both, while too big for my personal taste, look fantastic and they drive like a feather on a cloud. By the fraction of a lug nut, I voted for the Wildcat.
I voted for Chrysler by a nose. At this point I was pleased to see Chrysler had evolved away from its chunky and disappointing looking (IMHO) '63-'64 offerings into this comparatively sporty and crisper, stylish design with the awesome interior. Buick for me had peaked in styling with its '63-'64 design, which I loved. By '66 the Buick was still an attractive car for sure but IMHO the design had begun to wane.
By the mid-1960s all American cars to my eyes were Yachts! I wasn't a fan of the bigger is better mindset of the era. I do agree with Tony that they drove and handled for their size "like a cloud". But on looks alone, neither attracted me. So because I did enjoy their "big car ride and handling", I voted a TIE!
Close one! Diabolical indeed. I love the daily challenges these present.
I went with the Buick because...well, because...who could not vote for a large Buick convertible?? It would be Unamerican!
JK; this is why I had no guilt feelings voting for Chrysler. Now if there had been a Pontiac Parisienne in the mix...a whole different story.
Now hold on there one second pard. I gotta call, 'baloney', on this one. I happen to know that at that time you did NOT own a Parisienne. You and the Missus drove Elmer the Moose to and from town to grocery shop and dine out. To Wit:
And while you have made no secret about your profession of being a police officer, you have NOT divulged the fact that you were, in point of fact, a Canadian Mountie!! N O R did you fess up to driving Mortimer Moose in the line of duty. To Wit:
Close, but I am more of a Chrysler fan. I must say, after looking at the Mountie expose above, that we have certainly diverged a lot from car choices here.
