WOW, a tough one again today John! The Merc is aptly named. Twin spoilers; but that chin spoiler spoils the looks. Going with the Four-Four-Two.

4-4-2. I can't get past the Mercury's grille, and the Oldsmobile was heralded as a decent handler.

Retired in Dunedin, Florida.

Olds 442 for the easy win today.  From 1968-69 onward the Mercury Cyclone design became more coarse looking (mainly the nose treatment) each passing year; whereas the Olds 442 did the opposite IMHO.  The 71-72 Olds 442 is a very attractively styled car and the high point for this 5 year body.  Sadly the following year the new body style paled big time in comparison.

I have to agree with the lot.  The Olds from 69-72 were outstanding, so it gets my vote today.

Easy one!  OLDSMOBILE!  John, you could put every '71 head-to-head with the 4-4-2 (for me), and the 4-4-2 WINS!

I'm going against the grain here. It's not an easy choice. I like the Olds W 30 for its performance potential. But I like the styling on the Cyclone.  The dash on the Merc takes the vote. I love all those extra gauges canted toward the driver.

I rather like both but the 442, especially in that colour really appeals.

Mercury, all but the grill.  I'd find a custom made grill to swap in if I owned one.

Oldsmobile gets my vote, but I'm into the Mercury too.

Gents, thanks for the pics and responses.
