I love the Riviera. It was the last great design from Bill Mitchel and, to my eye, he nailed it. It is polarizing, large, and in your face, just like a large American coupe should be!
Now that said, I don't really care for it being as big as it is, but from a styling and easy on the eyes car, it looks incredible in comparison to the over the top odd and weird looking Riviera. The Riviera looks put together in pieces that don't fit well.
I'm not particularly fond of either car but would prefer the Thunderbird by far as my driver. By this point it had become basically a luxury coupe and the same driving experience as the costlier Lincoln Continental; which I found to be an enjoyable experience. Its looks are not up to the standard of earlier T-Birds but, although not exciting, still decent enough. IMHO by this point in its history the Riviera had become an unattractive design which it seems polarized the opinions of traditional Riviera fans.
I surprised myself by choosing the Thunderbird. Maybe if the colors were different I'd have voted differently, but as presented, the T-bird looks better to me!
I picked the Buick for its styling, but I think the Thunderbird is a better car overall. It just looks too much like the MK IV. I much prefer the 1971 Thunderbird as it looks like a Thunderbird, although its front "beak" was somewhat controversial. It was available in three body styles as well.
