Again, both are very nice, but I find the hardtop on the 1961 gives a lightness to the car that I find very attractive. The midsize chrome with the red slash also suits.

I imagine that handling, space and mechanicals are virtually the same.

This was a very difficult one but the 62 today, tomorrow maybe the 61.

This is IMO the closest comparison you have done yet.  I pick my fave 60s Impala, the 1962 by a pug nose.  SO close.

I picked the 62 however if the 61 was a black convertible then that would be a different story.

1961 without question. Terrific design, bubble top. 1962 feels like a step on the way to some other look.

'62 I prefer the formal top compared to the bubble top, most people seem to prefer.

"62 I prefer the formal top compared to the bubble top, most people seem to prefer.  However if they were convertibles it would be a tie depending on color & drive trains, I just don't like the bubble tops.

I can't choose, the last of the previous generation and the first of the next. These are both exceptional cars and the Impala from 1958 to 1970 are all equally wonderful. I drool over every year and when it comes to picking a favorite, the very slight edge would be the '64.

Same here! The '62 didn't do it for me but I fell in love with the '63.
