Yeppers. In those shoebox years, Ford stepped up into a new era. New tech, new future look. In 49 thru 51 a driver could be proud to be seen in one. But today, give me the 48. Red is delightful for the car, so is Maize in a Sportsman configuration:@perrone1 If it were 1949, '50 or '51; the Ford of THAT year. But today I'd rather drive the much more nostalgic 1948 around.
I picked the Shoebox Tony, but that '48 in red just radiates a "fun to be had here" message doesn't it?
In 1951 the family car was a 1951 Chevrolet station wagon with Powerglide so Dad taught me to drive in his black, three on the tree 1948 Ford two door sedan, a skill that is necessary in the hills of eastern Kentucky. I was all excited when the 49 was announced but still have a soft spot for the 48.
I like them both and I have replicas of each year in various scales. I might choose to drive the more modern 1949-50 Ford especially back in the day, although the proven earlier Ford had also been around for a while.
@david-palmeter As you know David; the 2 door sedan body style and the coupe both looked great stock and also were popular as cool looking rods/customs.
@jack-dodds
Quite an impressive array, Jack! I searched for a black Standard model 2 door (Tudor?) but they were all either customized, restored Deluxe with WSW tires or seriously weathered. I had to resort to Copilot AI to get a 'company car' version.
Love both...the one that gets my vote is the one that makes the stronger statement and that's the Ford with the Fat Fenders, the '48!!!
