The long nose on the 48 just looks funny. So the 49 gets the vote
The '48 is a tired pre-war design while the '49 is fresh and reflects post-war optimism. Vote: 1949
John, you outdid yourelf again my friend. This is the toughest!! OK, I LOVE the '49; the "Classic" Merc.
But lose those skirts, it ruins the 'look'. And I hate to say this because I will forever favor the two-door over a four-door car but the '48 looks more original, more nostalgic, as a woody, in the '48 configuration. Odd man out here voting '48 - it looks so much like the one Lauren Bacall drove in the Bogart movie, "Dark Passage" which was the same vehicle only a '46 or '47.
The look of the long nose on the photo of the black car is due to the exaggerated camera angle.
I agree with you, Tony; the skirts are a no-no, but I liked everything else about it.John, you outdid yourelf again my friend. This is the toughest!! OK, I LOVE the '49; the "Classic" Merc.

1949 looks so good.
Retired in Dunedin, Florida.
I prefer the pre war look of the 1948. I would love either however, in my driveway. The 1949 here suffers from too many add ons.
Both years are really nice in the woody body style but the '49 Merc design has been a favorite of mine for many years.
@perrone1 I'm with you on this one. The '48 has style.
