I remember momma telling us kids, " you eat it or do without." Liver and onions, I done without. Good God did it stink up the house.🤢

Mom was a great cook. Whatever she made was deelish and we ate it all. Most of the time it was Italian fare; pasta, tomato sauce, and took her most of the day to make. You couldn't wait to eat it. I got all her recipes which started out being Grandmom Perrone's that she brought over from Sicily. I still make them today.

When I grew up, not eating something was not an option or even a consideration. There were some things we liked better than others but we ate everything that was put in front of us.

My Mom was an excellent cook. We didn't know it at the time, but she prepared for us what is known today as the Mediterranean diet.

Both my parents were excellent gourmet cooks.  I have never mastered the way my Dad could grill pork chops, or steaks.  To this day I remember Dad telling me to cut the steak with the grain.  My older brother married about 1970, and he asked Mom for some of her recipes.  Mom wasn't going to share with the new wife.  A few years later, me the single son, asked Mom for her recipes, she typed them out on index cards and mailed them to me.

I still have Mom's recipes she typed out on index cards many decades ago. Unfortunately, I have no one to cook for at this time.  Family recipes will unfortunately be lost when older people die.

My mom did the same thing for me - index cards. Those most precious, have food stains on them. HA!

Cook for a friend or associate for no apparent reason. Take the meal to them and share your mom's notes about the dish. It will be a lasting treasure for whoever you choose!
