I suspect the salesman's commission on this deal was quite rewarding.
My father owned and operated a small bus line. Around 1960 I drove with him over to Knoxville, TN, for a visit with the Superior Coach regional dealer, and, as the two of them launched into a long discussion, I wandered around the business. In the back I found a lot with ten or more hearses and ambulances, mostly Cadillacs and Packards, but I remember one was a Desoto. All were several years old, a decade at least and often more. I had fun looking at them, most complete with drapes and other attachments. Later, as we were getting ready to leave, I mentioned them to the dealer, and I still remember his response. "When we deliver a new professional car, a common response is, 'What's my trade-in worth?' And," he continued, "Remember that my delivery guy has to get home. Boy, if you want one of these, take your choice of any on the lot for $50."
But neither Daddy nor I had any use for a big old gas hog, so we went home in my Plymouth. Good old memories. . .
